Varsity Baseball faces Tompkins on March 4th for the second time in the 2025 season. The Warriors’ previous loss to Tompkins was on February 25th, 1-0. The Warriors had high hopes to beat Tompkins the second time around, however, luck was just cut short for the Warriors.
“There’s a couple of boys that I know on the other team. So, it is, fun competition,” said number 21 Jackie Bryant. “You know, I’ve been close with them for a while, so it’s always fun.”
At the beginning of the game, the Warriors were optimistic about the possible outcome. The Warriors were able to move ahead of the Falcons in the 2nd inning by scoring their first point. The play was made after an error by the Falcon’s first basemen which allowed, them to drive in a runner to start the game off.
“We need to keep working. Don’t just do it for me, do it for everyone else, said Senior Cole Keppler. “Do it for yourself. The team wants to win, and we need to be the best! We can do it!.”
Gaining control of the game, the Falcons were able to put up and fight in the 3rd inning but the Warriors pushed forward to a lead score of 4-3 in their favor. Senior, Cole Keppler, hit a triple to bring in two runs. The Falcons were not letting up, they went into the 4th inning trying to get a hit and play off of Jordan. They were not able to score off of Sophmore pitcher Thomas Eugate. Once the Warriors were at bat , they were able to bring in an extra point to a leading score of 5-3.
“Just work wins or we have to work harder,” said Pitcher Thomas Eugate.”We have to cut the little mistakes.”
The 5th inning is where the Warriors lost all hope. The Falcons scored an astounding 9 runs in the 5th inning the Warriors were struggling to get them out of the batting box. Attending Tompkin students mocking the pitchers truly let them have the high grounds. As the Warriors were finally able to get the Falcons off of the batting mound, the Warriors were not able to pull through to score any points at the bottom of the 5th leaving the score 12-5. The 6th inning was not any different for the Warriors. The Falcons scored 2 more runs in the 6th inning, making the final score 14-5 Tompkins. With a big loss, the Warriors still have lots to look forward to.
“You just gotta come back and work on it tomorrow, keep the same routine, just work on what we did wrong, and bounce back and forget this loss,” said Senior Cole Kessler. “Just take it one game at a time. Focus on the task in front of us, and don’t worry about the future.”
Even though the Warriors faced a big loss against Tompkins. The Warriors goal is to make playoffs for the first time in school history.
“Just keep our head up, to be honest, because, I mean, we still our goal is to make playoffs, said number 21 Jackie Bryant. “We gotta make it this year for the first time in school’s history, so that’s one thing we learned. And I think it’s still possible.”
