Girl’s JVB soccer team finished the first half of district play undefeated with a win over Freeman on February 4th. They also have a “clean sheet”, meaning rival schools have not scored a single point against them all season.
“Well, tonight, we got pushed really well, but it’s good. The girls play really well,” says JVB Coach LaFollett.”The girls are good, and it was nice to watch them be competitive and do their thing.”
The last time the JVB team was undefeated was 2 years ago. They ended the whole season with a clean sheet and won districts that year.
With a close call against Freeman, Freshman Goalkeeper Ava Magallan was the last line of defense and the only thing in the way of Freeman scoring on Jordan and ending their scoreless run.
“I was really scared, but I was like, hey. It’s not gonna save itself,” said Ava Magallan 28’. “So I just kinda threw my body at it.”
With Ava Magallan playing goalie for the first time this year, she showed her dedication, and hard work has paid off.
”It was really nice save for somebody who doesn’t normally play goalies.” said Coach LaFollet
It was an intense game, with many great plays with impressive goals from the players.
“I got to cross in when I was running down the field and cross it in for Emma Fisher to get the goal in, which she did really good on,” said Michelle Lemoine 28’. “We got some good through balls down the line, and some good combos together.”
Players cite meaningful practice as their secret to successful plays, from simple things like communication to more difficult plays like combos and crosses.
“Practice has helped a lot. We used to not be able to cross the ball and shoot whatsoever,” said Michelle Lemoine. “But this time I was able to cross it, and Emma was able to shoot it and make it in.”
This is Freeman High School’s inaugural year, and they proved that they could be a formidable threat in the near future.
“They’re gonna be good,” said Coach Lafollet.”Right now, they only have one team, so it’s gonna take a while, but they’re gonna be good.”
With another half to go in districts, players on JVB are optimistic they can win it all and remain unscored on through the end of the season. They are still practicing and perfecting everything they can to make it a reality. The players have grown to be a family and to support each other.
“I wanna say thank y’all for being there for me and for being such a good team together,” said Emma Fisher. ”I know we have a lot of fun when we’re playing.”
