For the first time in school history, the volleyball team is headed to the playoffs with a total district record of 27 wins and 14 loses.
The standings put them at 4th place in the district’s rankings, behind rival team Seven Lakes. After a loss to Tompkins in district play, they turned it around and triumphed over Morton Ranch.
“A huge challenge that our team has faced is that we’re still a new program, and we’ve faced many good teams, so right now our focus is learning to stay together and play as a team.” Sophomore varsity player Ava Ribakovs said.
Getting to the playoffs is a huge deal for the Jordan Warriors, Jordan has only been around since 2020 after being established throughout the pandemic. It shows strength and resilience against being a new school but that didn’t stop the varsity volleyball team from thriving.
“When entering the playoffs, we just have to focus on winning the first game and continue on from there.” Ava Ribakovs said.
According to several players, the biggest challenge for the team moving forward is to never underestimate an opponent despite their previous record.
“No matter what the circumstances, your thought process impacts the game and the team, whether it’s positive or negative.” Said volleyball manager Aubrey Phillips.
After last year’s graduating class left, it left a void in positions. With only one freshman making varsity this year (Allie Hodges) some players had to really step up and fill the open spots.
“The new people that took on new roles that they haven’t taken on before, really helped us with this season.” Junior Izzy Bingaman said.
The changes to the team this year has proved successful, with the varsity finally reaching the playoffs.
“We’ve seen really, really good teams and we’ve become a really good team,” Coach Jennifer Vaden said. “And now it’s who can perform longer than the other person. We’re ready.”
