KISD school district officials have proposed a bond to give all students grades 3-12 one-to-one technology.
Proposition B would cost $83,567,360. Proponents say that computers for each student would give kids more help throughout school and be a big stress reliever to teachers.
Addison Cummings ’25 said “Spending this much money on these computers is a really good investment towards the future success of the kids.”
The use of online technology isn’t slowing down with time, quite the opposite. The Tech Bond Package is going to provide kids with access to technology all throughout the day. Which could help kids get work done faster and in less time.
In a video sent to the community, Dr. Ethan Crowell, Principal at JHS, said “The Texas education agency now requires all students to take STARR Assessments and exams online.”
All in all, this Bond Package the school district is trying to pass is meant for kids and teachers to work more efficiently throughout the school day.
However some people disagree.
“Why would all kids need a computer” Lila Bailey ’27 said. Lila believes most kids, especially younger kids don’t need a computer to do easy class work.
Some parents believe that spending $83,567,360 on this tech bond is a waste of money and resources.
“It’s excessive, I feel that there are many students in the school district that are capable of providing their own computer, but there are a select few that would need the help. So I think that some funds would be appropriate to provide for those students that don’t have those capabilities already, but so many students in the district have their own MacBook, laptop, Chromebook, and so I think that providing one for each student is a bit excessive,” said parent Holly White.
Teachers at JHS believe that the computers would have a positive effect on the students.
“I think the computers would have a very positive effect on the students, because it makes access easier, and because kids this age are so used to using technology,” said world history teacher Coach Prusac.
