After a record-setting season, with the boys making it all the way to the regional tournament, and the girls to playoffs, the state championship is within reach for the Jordan Warriors.
Members from both teams are determined to show what they’re capable of, helping their teams advance in the process. As the soccer program progresses, both coaches and players have buckled down in preparation for the upcoming season.
“The buildup for the season has been tough, and the coaches are always pushing us to be our best,” Osagie Osague, “Ay,” a sophomore JV player, said
Soccer at Jordan is a back-breaking program when preparing for the season, but it’s worth it in the end. This year, the expectation of both the boys and girls soccer teams are higher than it has ever been. Many players are determined to go further in the playoffs and win state.
“After the loss at the Regional Semi-Finals, the varsity team had a ‘bounce back’ mentality to do even better and go even further at state next year,” Ay said.
The soccer program started at the 5A level in the 2020-2021 school year, with no varsity team to represent Jordan. Now, there are two amazing varsity teams playing at the 6A level. According to Rennie Rebe, girls soccer varsity coach, the soccer program is at an all-time high.
“To compete, I happen to think if we compete and put our best out on the field and work well as a team that wins will come, but the goal is to compete,” she said.
The three boys teams have around 140 people in total wanting to show what they’re made of. Additionally, the girls teams have roughly 68 people willing to give it their all on the field this year.
“We have a lot of quality returning players,” Coach Rebe said. “We also have a lot of quality new players, so that dynamic is going to be super exciting for our program.”
With all the new talent the soccer program has received, the players’ and coaches’ goal to win state might just become a reality.
None of this would be possible without the hard work, dedication, commitment, spirit, and energy from all the players. The players have shown immense commitment and dedication throughout their seasons. A notable example of this is the boys team’s resilience after the devastating loss at the regional tournament, which shows their drive to come back twice as hard this year.
“The loss was sad, but because of it, the team is more willing than ever to push and become state champions,” Gage Phillip, freshman on JV, said.
Soccer is much more than just a sport for players. For some, soccer is a way to channel anger or any emotion that needs to be let out and released.
“Soccer has always been my escape from everything, so if there is ever a time where I’m upset or just need to be alone, I could just go out with my ball and just play and express myself on the field,” Madison Lambert, senior varsity soccer player, said,
The love for the game isn’t the only thing that drives all these players to want to succeed. Their success is tied to the emotion and heart that has been put into the game for many years. All in all, this upcoming year might just be the turning point the soccer team is looking for.
“I’m looking forward to getting further with the team as one cohesive group instead of individuals,” Zara Zamarripa, senior varsity goalie, said.
