The volleyball team is looking forward to an exciting and prosperous season. The volleyball program is starting the new season off strong with a varsity tournament win and multiple program-wide wins.
Every volleyball team beat Katy High School on September 5, 2023. Katy volleyball fans, who are typically known for their strong sense of school pride, were silent in the stands that night. Jordan had never had an all-around win against Katy Volleyball before, signifying the positive change in the volleyball teams’ performances.
Our varsity team this year has 14 players. One being freshman Allie Hodges. Allie is the only freshman that isn’t on one of the freshman teams. Per coaches rule, freshmen are either on freshman teams or they have the chance to make varsity.
Allie, a left back, made the varsity team as a freshman.
“Tryouts were crazy because for the longest time I didn’t know what team I had made,” Allie said. “Even when we started playing scrimmages, I still wasn’t officially on a certain team.”
Allie claims that although the tryout process was stressful, she is very happy to have made the varsity team.
“It was such a relief to finally find out that I was on varsity,” she said.
Although this is such an amazing accomplishment, especially for a freshman, it has come with some challenges. One of which, being leaving behind all her friends on the freshman team and connecting with her new, older teammates.
“Of course it was hard leaving the girls that I’ve played with for years,” Allie said. “I miss them so much, [but] it was actually not at all hard to connect with the older girls.”
The varsity volleyball team competed in a tournament in Pflugerville a few weeks ago where they made it to the gold bracket. They went 8-1 that weekend and came out champions. Allie claims that the team’s victory was exciting not only because it was the program’s first tournament win, but because of the memories she made during their time there.
“My favorite memory so far would have to be the Pflugerville tournament because we won, and I got to spend a lot of time with my new teammates,” she said. “It was really fun getting to just hang out in the hotel and be able to get to talk to them.”
