Student council members Damisi Osibodu 25’, Taryn Dailey 25’, and Dylan Gibbons 25’ set up the blackout pep rally. They passed out glow-in-the-dark bracelets and sticks and turned out the lights: Soon, the gym would explode in a celebration of neon and cheers.
Students and sports teams celebrated the Blackout Pep Rally in anticipation of the football matchup between the Warriors and the Katy Tigers during Enrichment on Friday, October 18th in the main gym.
Many students compared this one to the last pep rally, when the theme was western.
“The western one was fun and festive,” said Asmita Ramalingam 27’.“But this one was more fun and more people participated”
The Legacies dance team and cheerleaders performed their routines to make sure everyone was hyped.
“Freshmen cheerleaders helped out at the last pep rally but we actually performed at this one.” Kendall Francis 28’ said “We spent the whole first, second and third period practicing.”
The Dance Director, Victoria Way worked really hard to make sure that the Golden Line (JV) and Legacies (Varsity) were ready.
“We practice till 4:30 everyday of the week,” Way said. “And we had to balance 3-4 routines in the last 2 weeks. We spend 4 hours on each routine getting it ready.”
Everyone worked hard to get everything ready. Osibodu, Dailey, and Gibbons came up with some games they could play with the students. Tic Tac the Tigers featured a big Tic Tac Toe board and had students run across trying to get 3 in a row. They played 3 rounds total. Freshman vs sophomores, Freshmen won, Juniors vs Seniors, seniors won, and Freshmen vs Seniors where seniors took the victory once again.
Next, they played human ring toss. Cheerleaders were held up and threw inflatable rings into the crowd. Seniors were successful once again.
The pep rally concluded with each class cheering as loud as possible to win the spirit stick. The seniors once again proved their enthusiasm for school spirit, and maintained control of the award.
