Varsity Volleyball hosted its last home game on Tuesday, October 22nd, against Taylor High School.
The game held special significance for many players, as it was Senior Night and the last time many would step on the Jordan court. The stakes were high — Especially after a three game losing streak.
During the first set, Jordan came out strong ultimately but fell short, with an ending score of 20-25 in favor of the Mustangs.
Things heated up in the second set, with many major rallies and time-outs. The Warriors won the second set 26-24. The girls really put in their all to win this set. Winning the 2nd set boosted the morale of the team and helped carry them into the 3rd set.
The 3rd set put pressure on Jordan’s defense. The Mustangs had very strong spikes and serves that caused some trouble for the Warriors, but they responded with great coverage of their spikers and servers who scored Aces, which is where the first serve scores a point. The team was energetic and celebrated every point scored. At the end of the third set, the Warriors came out victorious with a score of 25-21.
When the 4th set started, the Mustangs did not back down. The seniors shone brightly in this set, knowing this was their last time playing on the Jordan court. Every point scored generated more energy than the last. The team rallied around each other and supported each other, even if they lost the point. With the Warriors getting closer to 25 points, the Mustangs refused to back down, and kept the ball up in the air.
Just as the Warriors were about to score their final point, the Mustangs were able to get it back into the air and tip the ball over the net to score. With Jordan’s final time-out of the game, Varsity Coach Vaden spoke to the girls to give them momentum to finish the game.
With just a tip over the net, Senior Abbie O’shay scored the winning point for the Warriors ending the final set 25-20.
The game ended with the Warriors victorious 4-1. The Warriors celebrated their Seniors and their success that they have done for the program.
They still have one more game to play to end the season. Varsity will play their last game on Tuesday against the Paetow Panthers at Paetow high school at 5:30. It is sure to be an emotional night as volleyball season ends.
