In a season of dominance and an unbeaten streak, Jordan Warriors finally fell as powerhouse Katy defeated them 17-7 in a highly anticipated District 19-6A clash Friday night at Rhodes Stadium. The defeat did nothing to the confidence of the Warriors, who look to the path ahead, resolved that this defeat has to be put behind them in time for next week’s matchup with Taylor.
No. 13-ranked Katy brought its signature defensive pressure in, allowing just seven points to Jordan’s high-powered offense-the result of a late pick-6 courtesy of Rocky Alo-Perry in the fourth quarter.
Defensive Back Zachary Taylor states “ We held them down to 17 points, knowing they were the top 15 team, so I feel like we did our job. But Offense needs to execute.”
The relentless Tigers’ front seven set the tone early by pressuring Jordan quarterback Beau Bryant and knocking the Warriors’ offensive unit off balance for much of the contest.
It was Jordan’s first loss of the year and came with much bigger implications on the race for the district title. The Warriors sit at 7-1 overall and 5-1 in district and will have to refocus if it hopes to challenge for the top spot. Katy improved to 6-1 overall and 5-0 in district. Katy’s district win streak is now 30-straight games, and they proved once again why they are the team to beat.
The Warrior’s next game against Taylor is a great opportunity to get back on the right track and secure a place as one of the best in the district. No longer undefeated, with the good start to this season and adversity overcome, the Warriors are ready to prove that one loss won’t sidetrack their plans.
