A heartfelt blood drive in honor of freshmen Abby Robertson took place on September 8th at Saint Faustina Catholic Church in Fulshear, drawing an impressive turnout and outpouring of love from the community, family and friends. Sponsored by the Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center, the drive was organized to support Robertson as she battles her way through cancer. The 32 available donation spots filled up quickly, and necessitated a second bus to take walk-ins.
“On the day of the blood drive, the schedule was so full that friends asked the nurses if they’d bring a third bus,” said Abby’s mother Betsy Robertson. “We have been very blessed and hope to bless others as much as we can.
The blood drive coincided with September’s Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, which honors cancer patients and offers the community a chance to express solidarity with those affected. Abby Robertson was diagnosed with Classical Hodgkin Lymphoma in the Spring of 2024.
“Abby is a fighter. She knows that each day is a gift,” says Betsy Robertson. “She is resilient and it’s amazing and inspiring to be around her.”
Despite her hardships, Abby has continued doing what she loves: participating in the JHS girl’s soccer program. Abby is enrolled in the soccer class at JHS and is a fierce competitor. The soccer team has shown their support for Abby and has learned from her example of strength and resilience.
“She’s a very strong girl and she shows others that even if you have some challenges to keep going,” said Tess Sampaio ‘28. “She has inspired others to keep working hard and to not give up.”
Abby’s older sister Grace Robertson ‘25 says that Abby has received two rounds of chemotherapy, and has shown much improvement. She has been showing positive signs from her recent visits to her doctor. But Abby’s attitude is what truly sets her apart.
“She has such a positive outlook on everything and has been so supportive to me and everyone around her,” says Abby’s older sister Grace Robertson.
