Warriors win big in Homecoming game against Mayde Creek

 

On Thursday, September 19th, varsity football emerged victorious against Mayde Creek High School as a culmination of a celebratory homecoming week.
With a strong start, wide receiver Andrew Marsh 25’ was able to score the first touchdown of the game. The Warriors took a lead 7-0 in the first quarter.
Next, the Warriors’ commanding defense was able to score points themselves by stopping the offense for a safety. Smothered by a strong defensive presence, the Rams were not able to score a single point in the first half.
The Warriors headed into halftime with a 9-0 lead, but made sure to shift their game plan for the second half.
“The locker room in our halftime is really about adjustment, so whatever wasn’t working for us, we get a chance to come out and right the shift for it,” coach Tracy Robertson said. “I am just excited the way we turned around and played in the second half and how the defense played the entire game.”
During half-time, the homecoming courts were brought onto the field to be awarded homecoming king and queen. Quarterback Dominic Cangolosi and Morgan Jones were respectively crowned Homecoming king and Homecoming queen.

After half-time, the Warriors came storming back out onto the field to face the Rams and finish the game.
In the 3rd quarter, Zion Jones 25’, was able to score another touchdown to bring the game 15-0.The Warriors were able to score a second safety to get an extra 2 points, leading 17-0. The Rams answered and scored a touchdown of their own. A fight broke out among a Jordan and Mayde Creek player, which ejected #27 Olumide Onala out of the game.
With the competition heating up the game headed into the 4th and final quarter. A rowdy student section even began bad-mouthing the Rams. The Warriors were able to push Zion Jones ‘25, to one final touchdown to end the game 24-7.
The Warriors’ players and personnel were able to persevere by preparing for whatever is thrown at them.
“Our defense was outstanding to come out and play a really well prepared Mayde Creek team and just really do everything we planned for throughout the week,” coach Robertson said. “I was super excited about the way these guys performed.”
Next up, the Warriors face Morton Ranch at Rhodes Stadium on Friday, September 27th at 7 pm.
