In a thrilling district season opener, the Katy Jordan Warriors emerged victorious over the Katy Tompkins Falcons, winning 24-14.
The Warriors started strong, forcing a third and long where outside linebacker, Mason Baird ’25, popped the ball out of the hands of the Tompkins running back. After a multiple possessions in this defensive battle, Jordan struck first. Quarterback Dominic “Dom” Cangolosi ‘25 throws a passing touchdown to wide receiver Landon Williams ‘26.
Later in the second quarter, Tompkins answered quickly with a rushing touchdown. The fight continued on offense, as running back Tanner West ‘26, rushed for a 30 yard house call to extend the lead to 14-7 Warriors.
During halftime, leader Brayden Coffie uplifted the defense with a message.
“We just win, bro,” linebacker Brayden Coffie ‘25 said. “It is what it is every second of the day. We gotta dominate every second of that day and we came out and did that.”
Despite the tension, Jordan maintained composure, sealing the win with a late fumble recovery leading to a touchdown from defensive line Jimmy Alo-Perry ‘26 and final scoring drive to claim a 10-point victory. Their defense stepped up in critical moments, particularly in the fourth quarter, when Tompkins tried to rally, but was confronted by strong tackling and big defensive plays.
The team came into this game composed and ready to take control of the game.
“We had a good practice all week, good game, coach put in a good plan,” running back Tanner West ’26 said. “We had a good week of practice, players played hard and came out on top.”
The Warriors are set to play Mayde Creek this Thursday.
“It means a lot, but we got to stay focused and stay focused on the present and week to week,” West said. “We got a good opponent next week.”
