The school year began with an energetic pep rally with a fun western theme on Friday, September 6, and served as an introduction to freshman and new students to the vibrant school spirit of Jordan High School. Students and staff members participated with positive energy, especially when the mechanical bull was announced.
The pep rally kicked off with the Goldenline Cheerleaders and the Legacies Dance Team performing multiple dances, chants, cheers, tricks, and more.
“Their performance was literally jaw dropping,” freshman Ena Adwendaa said. “I had no clue they could even do that”
“I love the JHS pep rallies,” said the President of the Legacies Dance Team, Mariana Rondon. “It’s my favorite opportunity to show my school spirit. . . We’ve been preparing our routine for about a month, so I was really excited to finally show it off.”
After the performances was the mascot walk and talk. Clad in cowboy boots, the Warrior mascot took this opportunity to teach students how to perform line dances, with step-by-step instructions and a student demonstration.
Next, the assistant principals challenged themselves to ride the mechanical bull, and whoever lasted the longest, won for that grade level. With 9th grade AP Stacey Grayson at 22 seconds, 10th grade AP Eddie Jenkins with 10 seconds, 11th grade AP Derek Johnk with 6 seconds and 12th grade AP Dustin Schmeits with 20 seconds, Grayson won the contest for the freshman.
Finally, it was time to declare what grade won the spirit stick. The goal: stand up and chant “Hoo Haa you wish you were a (freshman, sophomore, junior, senior)”.
Freshmen? Most stayed seated and did not chant.
Sophomores? Some stood up and chanted although most didn’t.
Juniors? All were standing and chanting loudly.
Seniors? All standing and jumping, chanting as loud as they can be, ultimately winning the award.
“I had so much fun at this pep rally and I definitely think that it was the best one yet,” said Varsity Cheer Captain, Lily Frank. “I thought that the students seemed to have more fun at this pep rally and it made me so excited for the future ones that we have this year.”
The next pep rally is planned for later this month when Jordan plays Morton Ranch for Homecoming.
