Despite having one of the most challenging seasons in Jordan Girls Soccer history, the Warriors bounced back, working their way to being Regional Finalists.
“It’s been really hard with Rebe gone, and I don’t think anyone understands that more than the team,” said Lila Bailey 27’, referencing the sudden departure of the Warrior’s head coach just before playoffs this year.
Last year, the Warriors were eliminated in the first round of playoffs to Elkins with a 2-0 defeat. This year, Jordan faced Elkins again in the first round of playoffs, but came out on top with a 3-1 victory.
“I was confident going into the Elkins game,” said Alexandria Ledbetter 26’ “After the game I was excited because this was my first playoff win and I felt excited to be a part of the team’s success.”
In the second round of playoffs the warriors faced off against Lamar and pulled a 2-1 win advancing them to the next round of playoffs once again.
“I felt very confident, we made it to the next round of playoffs for a reason, and we knew we weren’t ready to go home that night,” said Madison Lambert 24’, “For us to win the second round of playoffs with everything that happened this year showed we really deserved it.”
The excitement from round 3 of playoffs really got the warriors going. Stratford and Jordan tied 1-1, launching the decision of who would advance into the hands of the goalies with PKs (Penalty Kicks). In our favor Jordan came on top and advanced to the 4th round of playoffs.
“We have so much excitement and happiness to know that we’ve accomplished something that’s never happened in our program before.” said Madison.
Competition heated up entering the 4th round of playoffs, for the warriors, facing Brazoswood would determine who would go to regionals. With an end result of a 3-2 win against Brazoswood, the Warriors advanced to Regionals for the first time in Jordan’s Girls Soccer history.
“Being a freshman on varsity really motivated me,” said Lila, “My teammates are always building me up and making me stronger which makes being on the soccer team such a good environment.”
In the Regional Finals the Warriors faced off Seven Lakes in a match to determine who advances to state. This thrill-setting game kept everyone on the edge of their seats as the game went past over time.
Sadly, the Warriors let up a goal in the last 2 minutes of OT and lost their chances at state.
Despite losing, their amazing playoff run will go down in history as the first time Jordan Girls Soccer ever made it to playoffs.
Following the amazing playoff run, the Warriors are gearing up to begin rigorous off-season training.
“Everyone steps up to do their best when the time comes to further the success of the team,” said Alex.
