Explosive Offense Not Enough for Varsity Football to Clinch Victory Over Tompkins

Jordan kicked off to Tompkins at Rhodes Stadium with both teams vying for the second spot in the district. Tompkins started on offense, and scored quickly with a 25-yard touchdown. Jordan expected to answer back with a touchdown of their own, but instead, Tompkins intercepted quarterback Colin Willets, setting up for another Tompkins rushing touchdown.

Jordan offense took to the field, but it wasn’t Willets receiving the snap — instead, Junior quarterback Dominic Cangolosi was under center and electrified the crowd. Cangolosi fired his first pass to wide receiver Zechariah Sample, who took it up the field for a 58 yard touchdown. Tompkins answered back with another rushing touchdown from their quarterback for 48 yards.

Tompkins kicked it off to Zechariah Sample, who took the kick to the house, making the score 21-14.

In the second quarter, Jordan managed to get one more touchdown before the end of the half, a successful one-on-one catch by receiver Andrew Marsh. Jordan hoped to end the half with a tie, but Tompkins’ offense marched down the field and scored a 1 yard passing touchdown with less than a minute before the half.

In the second half, Jordan came up short for a touchdown, so they settled for a field goal — but unfortunately, that was their last score of the game, while Tompkins were able to score three more times, once in the air and two times on the ground, ending the game 24-49.

Despite the loss, Jordan did show key moments that can be transferred onto the next game. Jordan’s crowd managed to cause Tompkins’ offense to commit over 5 false starts. With Zechariah Sample back on the field, the passing game is much more dynamic and adds even more speed to the offense.

The Jordan Warriors need to come up big against their last game with Morton Ranch to make up for their back-to-back losses. A win against Morton Ranch would secure the Warriors a playoff spot.
